To help our young and vulnerable lactating mothers. Let's eradicate dumping of newborns!.ed.
Miss Eastlands Social Entrepreneurship is all about making a positive impact. By working with pioneers and pathfinders who use their business as a way to make everyday life betterfor those who need it most, we strive towards a more equal and inclusive society.
There are millions of people in slums and informal settlements of
Nairobi’s Eastlands whose lives are a constant struggle to provide
for themselves and their families. By backing and working with
social entrepreneurs, we create new opportunities and contribute to
better everyday lives around Eastlands.
Together with dedicated partners and experienced Miss Eastlands
Organization’s co-workers, we develop programmes, products and
services to scale up social entrepreneurs' businesses and increase
their impact.
We team up with donors, corporates, business, individuals and
like-minded stakeholders as well as community-based organizations
to support established social entrepreneurs to increase their
impact.
We collaborate with social entrepreneurs to produce unique items
and develop services for Miss Eastlands Organization – that way we
contribute to creating jobs for those who need it the most.
Exclusion and inequality are global challenges. But we must solve it at local and community levels. Our ambition is to operate in all slums and informal settlements of Nairobi’s Eastlands region to create a better everyday life for as many people as possible.
One of the social entrepreneurs we collaborate with is Pamela Gatwiri of PAM NAIL LACQUE. Through her business Pam Nail Polish, she trains young and vulnerable lactating mothers who want to work in the beauty sector with the aim to learn, develop and practice as required by the market. There are thousands of young mothers in slums living in poor conditions which pose health risks. Read full story
Our work is about inspiring and engaging others to make a change in the community at local level. It’s a collaboration between us, social entrepreneurs-corporates,individuals, and civil society organisations. By partnering with social entrepreneurs and connecting them with those in need we create real and sustainable opportunities. To highlight the equal partnering, we focus on mutual learning and build on each other’s strengths. We look at how to use our knowledge and experience to help both the people we serve and social entrepreneurs grow and have a bigger impact in the community-it’s all about win-win!
Empowerment
We focus on empowerment of vulnerable and marginalised people and the support of social entrepreneurs and other partners. We believe this is the only way to contribute to significant and lasting change.
Innovation
We work with piloting and continuous innovation, both by finding new solutions with partners and supporting the activities of social entrepreneurs.
Lead By Example
We lead by what we do and by sharing our learnings to enable others to advance the social entrepreneurship agenda.
Co-Creation
By co-creating, we find new ways of working, discover synergies and encourage learning and sharing of competencies.
Trust
Building strong and long-lasting relationships internally and externally is crucial to maximise our outcome.
Transparency
We are open about both positive and negative experiences, learnings and results and strive to be clear about expectations, division of responsibilities and labour, and how to solve issues that we may encounter on the way, both internally and externally.
We stand for empowering vulnerable youth and young at most risk lactating mothers across Eastlands’ slums and informal settlements to be the best they can be through leadership, talent, communication skills and smarts.
